If you are a commercial insurance claims professional, you know the importance of accurate, impartial, and conclusive analysis into cause of loss, and that is just what our experts deliver.  Our seasoned engineers and consultants will provide you with reliable investigations that address the unique needs of your particular claim, get to the root of the damage or failure, and help you overcome the challenges of fraud and third party negligence.

We provide investigation services for the following claim types:

  • Wind and flood damage following natural disasters including tornadoes, hurricanes, and flood events.

  • Cause and origin investigations

  • Geotechnical failure

  • Underwater investigation, including marine loss

  • Investigation of machine failure

  • Work injury / safety

  • Chemical plant accident investigations

We have our own drill rigs and crew for investigating Geotechnical failures.  We routinely use techniques such as soil borings, ground penetrating radar, shear wave testing and other specialized techniques to evaluate failure methods.

Due to our extensive experience with Seawall Inspections, we are particularly equipped for underwater investigations. We utilize a combination of the latest specialty technology, tools, and practices including:

  • Diving

  • Side scan sonar

  • Imaging sonar

  • Remotely operated vehicles (ROV)

  • Ground penetrating radar for soil tie backs

  • Specialized radar imagery

For failures near land, a combination of sonar imaging, ROV, and diving can be used along with specialized satellite imagery.  For losses at sea, initial investigation can be performed with satellite imagery, followed by side scan sonar to reduce the search area.  Once the search area is narrowed to a manageable distance, imaging sonars, ROVs, video, and divers can be used to perform surveys of the item of interest.

In general, the steps involved in our underwater survey include:

  • Establish appropriate number of datum points and baseline

  • Place cross tapes

  • Sketch the item of interest

  • Shoot a photo-mosaic and video

We provide the following information in a typical investigation report:

  • Summary and investigative methods utilized

  • Detailed analysis of information collected

  • Photographic log, sonar imaging, and satellite imagery (as appropriate)

  • Conclusions and recommendations

For large and small claims, our team can review facts with a desktop investigation or perform extensive field investigations depending on your needs. Let the Lighthouse team assist you with the specialized investigations you need to evaluate your claims.
